Standards-Based Lesson Plan (3)
INSTRUCTIONS:

Creating and implementing a minimum of three (3) lesson plans that implement digital storytelling (and focuses on different digital storytelling methodology) into your course curriculum will allow you to show that you are able to:
  • Describe and understand digital storytelling as a teaching tool
  • Examine digital storytelling methodology (elements, structure, writing, pacing, voice, audience, image quality, and shot composition)

While creating your lessons, please be sure that each of your lessons:
  • Address at least one HCPS / Common Core State Standard. These lessons do not need to be extensive but of enough quality to demonstrate that you understand what digital storytelling is and what an effective lesson would look like as part of a digital media course.
  • Focus on at least one digital storytelling methodology reviewed in the course (each lesson must focus on a different methodology).
  • You are welcomed to use any standards-based lesson plan you are comfortable with or you may also use the template to the right.
  • Attach your Lesson Plan Documents (3 lessons minimum) that integrate digital storytelling (and focuses on three different digital storytelling methodology) into your Learning Results Portfolio.
  • Write your caption and reflection for these artifacts. Things that you may want to consider discussing are why was it important that you create this lesson plan for this particular course?  Why was it important that your students learn these concepts?  What types of concepts did you take from the face-to-face sessions at SP that enabled you to create these lessons?

Notes and Resources
(including handouts, Web sites, and project files) from discussions of storytelling methodology and/or after implementation

INSTRUCTIONS:
  • By including your notes and resources (including handouts, Web sites, and project files) from discussions of storytelling methodology and/or after implementation, you will be able to show that you are able to:

Examine digital storytelling methodology (elements, structure, writing, pacing, voice, audience, image quality, and shot composition) based on curriculum from Waianae High School's Searider Productions.

  • Attach your notes and resources (including handouts, Web sites, and project files) from discussions of storytelling methodology and/or after implementation into your Learning Results Portfolio.
  • Write your caption and reflection for these artifacts. Some things that you may want to consider discussing are the digital storytelling methodologies that were covered in each particular resource (if a specific one was featured), how you used these resources as a teaching tool, whether or not these were useful, if you would use them again in the future, if there are other things that these resources didn’t cover that you hope to include in future lessons, etc.
Student Work Samples (3)
(Storyboards and Video Files of at least three (3) sample student digital stories with teacher captions and reflections)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Through the implementation of your lessons into your course curriculum, you will have the opportunity to work with your students and allow them to create and develop their own digital stories. This will provide you and your students with the opportunity to:
  • Use different multimedia tools to create a story from pre-production, production, and post-production in different formats (i.e. commercial, short, PSA, news story, etc.)
  • Demonstrate collegiality by collaboratively producing a 25 second to 3 minute video using the methodology learned. Please include AT LEAST THREE (3) student samples of completed stories and storyboards in the follow "Student Sample One", "Student Sample Two", and "Student Sample Three" sections.

You will need to incorporate at least three (3) student samples of completed stories (in QuickTime format with accompanying storyboards) that:
  • Are between 25 seconds to 3 minutes
  • Incorporate the digital storytelling methodology (elements, structure, writing, pacing, voice, audience, image quality and shot composition) based on curriculum from Waianae High School's Searider Productions.

**Although it is not required to receive course credit, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you submit your student sample videos to one of the following:
  • 'Olelo Youth Xchange
  • PBS Hawai'i's Hiki No
  • Hawai'i Department of Education's Hawai'i Student Digital Showcase
  • Student Television Network (Fall or Spring Nationals)

Write your caption and reflection for these artifacts. Things to consider in your caption/reflection: How did these videos meet or not meet your expectations? (You can share some of the criteria from your rubric in your written justification.) If it didn’t meet the criteria, what could the students have been done to improve upon it? If it did meet expectations, why do you feel this way? Are there other things that could be done to help the video go from good to great? How did the storyboards help students create a story from pre-production, production, and post-production in different formats, etc.?
