Digital Media comes to West Hawaii!
We are now in Kona, Hawaii at Kealakehe Intermediate School! This week, we are working with about 30 teachers and students from Waimea and Kona to learn the basics of video production and storytelling.

TRACK DESCRIPTIONS

beginner track
Basic Requirements: Any student that's brand new to media

Description: This track will cover the basics of video production. Lessons will include videography, audio, digital editing, and the HIKI NŌ standards. **FOR THE BEGINNING WORKSHOP, TO GET THE MOST OUT OF THE WORKSHOP, WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU COME WITH “HOW TO” VIDEO IDEAS. For this session, your students will work on the video that will potentially become your HIKI NŌ how to piece. NOTE:  **Teachers and students attending the Beginning Track MUST attend ALL FOUR DAYS of the workshop.

Equipment Needs
  • Video cameras, mics, tripods, headphones, extra batteries (one set per team)
  • Laptops with video editing software (i.e. Final Cut Pro X, Premiere, etc.) (one laptop per student)

Final Product: How To Video
intermediate track
Basic Requirements:
Students who attend this workshop must have participated in creating a piece for HIKI NŌ (How To, Profile, News Story, etc.). Students should already have basic level skills such as the basic shots, shot composition, how to edit, and how to do an interview.

Description:
This track is intended for students who have acquired Beginning level skills but are not yet ready for the Advanced level. Lessons will focus on various technical skills that will allow them to build their knowledge and skills in creating digital stories. This workshop will focus on various components such as editing techniques, DSLR, b-roll, interviews, and audio. Students will work on the video that will potentially become their HIKI NŌ profile piece. NOTE:  **Teachers and students attending the Intermediate Track MUST attend ALL FOUR DAYS of the workshop.

  • Mics, tripods, headphones, extra batteries (one set per team)
  • Laptops with video editing software (i.e. Final Cut Pro X, Premiere, etc.) and DSLR Cameras (one per student)
